Do you know anyone who takes full responsibility for their actions, behavior and feelings? What kind of life would you lead if you stopped blaming others for what happens to you or how you feel? How would you live your life if you decided your life was uniquely yours, and you can consciously create and form it in any way that you wanted to?
Latest research from psychologist as well as social scientists have demonstrated that your belief system has a profound cause and effect on your health, your mind, and success. Patients who are terminally ill, who have a belief that they can heal themselves and their bodies have a higher probability of being cured, students believing they can do better in school, will get better grades, and individuals who think they can succeed in any business they want, will indeed succeed. So in other words, it’s really true that: “You can if you think you can.”
The Belief System
Beliefs are just prejudices, assumptions, ideas, judgments, and attitudes, through which emotions we experience are filtered. Beliefs are not real facts, but are just mere opinions with some expectations attached. These principles, doctrines or beliefs, generally held to be true, are the basic way in which we structure how we understand reality. They are the foundation of our comprehension, interpretation, and analysis of any given event or situation. Most of our beliefs are inherited from our parents, peers, the media, organized religion, and other major institutional structures and educational systems.
Our belief system provides for and acts as a core set of values on how we choose to live our lives, which are based on everything that we interpret, or say, or do. This basic belief system defines a principle ‘set of rules’ by which we store and process information as it filters through our conscious minds. Many core beliefs are actually out of our awareness as we usually take for granted that ‘that’s the way I am’ or ‘this is my reality’, when we try to justify our beliefs or our actions. Stress is an example of this process where we have an active role in how we react to the stress.
Learn How To Create
One of the biggest pervasive beliefs in our society is that we are victims. For we as victims often feel helpless and hopeless. So our response is ‘oh poor me’ or ‘ain’t it awful.’ We condition ourselves to believe that we are helpless to determine what’s the best situation for us, and look towards others to tell us what’s right for us. This feeling of ‘powerlessness’ allows us to play the poor ol me, self-pity game, as we are able to abdicate responsibility for living our lives the way we do or find satisfying.
We can always blame others, and then continually use convenient excuses for us not taking charge of our destiny. Fredrick Mann once wrote, “The Power of Choice: The most powerful of human ability.” So in other words, it is completely up to you: What you want to be, either a creator or a victim? Victims can be defined as people that bad things are done to; while creators are those who make things happen. Victims often believe that ‘life events happens to them.’, where creators believe that ‘they are solely responsible for creating their own destiny.’
10 Practical Steps: Be A Creator Instead Of A Victim
1. Stop blaming your family or friends or others for what or how you’re feeling. It’s up to you, it’s always your choice on how you interpret the events in your life
2. Use positive affirmations such as ‘I believe, I deserve the best of what life has to offer.’
3. Create positive affirmations out of your negative thought patterns. Set aside some time each day to repeat these positive affirmations a few times. Make sure that these new thoughts are not replaced by any negative thought patterns the rest of the day
4. Visualize exactly what you want. The steps to positive visualization are:
a) Perceive yourself as successful and achieving what you want
b) Believe that you can achieve your dreams
c) Open yourself up to all the blessings that life offers and
d) Celebrate any success
5. Practice gratitude daily. Make sure you thank all the blessings that you receive throughout the day
6. Begin a Gratitude journal. Before you go to bed each night, write down in this journal the 5 things that you’re grateful for each day
7. Begin a Joy journal. List all the things that make you happy. When you’re having a particularly ‘bad’ day, go back to this journal to re-focus on the great moments of your life
8. Monitor your thoughts and change them from fear based thoughts to joy based thoughts. Keep in mind: The Universal Law of Increase, whatever you decide to focus your energy on naturally expands.
9. Stand in front of a mirror, or see your reflection in a plate glass window, and say, ‘I am worthy.’
10. Believe in yourself. When you appreciate yourself, that is the foundation for high self-esteem
